Charmaine Sinclair Pixelated Man: The Story Behind the Controversial NFT Collection

Fan favorite Lord of the Rings character, Gollum, is set to embark on a grand adventure when he stars in a brand new video game from German developer Daedalic Entertainment. Built as an action-adventure game, Lord of the Rings: Gollum will chronicle the creature's time after he acquired the One Ring but before the events of Tolkien's Lord of the Rings novels and films.

"You already have that big conflict in the character, two voices talking to you continuously, which means there is a good reason there are decisions to make in the game: the Smeagol decisions or the Gollum decision," Carsten Fichtelmann, CEO and co-founder of Daedalic Entertainment told THR.

For the moment, Lord of the Rings: Gollum is poised to land on PC and "all relevant console platforms" sometime in 2021. For the high-profile project, Daedalic Entertainment teamed with Middle-earth Enterprises to bring the misadventures of Tolkien's fidgety fiend to life on the pixelated screen. The Gollum game is the first of what Daedalic hopes is many projects for them spinning out of the legendary LOTR brand.

Matt Groening first conceived the Simpson family in the lobby of James L. Brooks' office. He had been called in to pitch a series of animated shorts, and intended to present his Life in Hell series. When he realized animating Life in Hell would require him to rescind publication rights for his life's work, Groening decided to go in another direction. He hurriedly sketched out his version of a dysfunctional family and named the characters after members of his own family, with Homer being named after his father. Homer made his debut with the rest of the Simpsons clan on April 19, 1987 in Tracey Ullman short "Good Night". Homer's middle initial "J", revealed to stand for "Jay",[50] was a "tribute" to Bullwinkle J. Moose from The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show, a show Matt Groening loved as a child.[51]

Homer placed second on TV Guide's 2002 Top 50 Greatest Cartoon Characters, behind Bugs Bunny.[58] In 2005, Homer was listed fifth on Bravo's 100 Greatest TV Characters, one of only four cartoon characters on that list.[59] British TV viewers voted him as the greatest TV character of all time.[60] In 2007, Entertainment Weekly placed Homer ninth on their list of the "50 Greatest TV icons".[61]

The Simpsons has been recommended for use in the teaching of sociology to modern-day college students. The journal Teaching Sociology appraised it as "particularly effective for illustrating sociological themes and encouraging critical thinking among today's undergraduates".[62] The non-academic book The Simpsons and Philosophy, the D'oh! of Homer includes a chapter analyzing Homer's character from the perspective of Aristotelian virtue ethics.

Homer was ranked the second greatest cartoon character by TV Guide, behind Bugs Bunny, and was voted the greatest television character of all time by Channel 4 viewers. For voicing Homer, Castellaneta won four Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance and a special-achievement Annie Award. In 2000, Homer and his family were awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Matt Groening first conceived the Simpson family in the lobby of James L. Brooks' office. He was called in to pitch a series of animated shorts, and intended to present his Life in Hell series. When he realized animating Life in Hell will force him to rescind publication rights for his life's work, Groening decided to go in another direction. He hurriedly sketched out his version of a dysfunctional family, and named the characters after various members of his own family, substituting "Bart" for his own name, because he decided it will have been too obvious for him to have named the character Matt. Bart made his debut with the rest of the Simpsons clan April 19, 1987 in the Tracey Ullman short "Good Night". The name "Bart"'s an anagram of the word "brat". Groening conceived Bart as an extreme version of the typical misbehaving child character, merging all of the negative traits of characters like Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn into one person. Groening's older brother Mark provided most of the inspiration for Bart. Groening also said he found the premise of Dennis the Menace disappointing and was inspired to create a character actually a menace. 2ff7e9595c
